WHAT
We are excited to officially invite you to our Annual Oxnard Labor Day Picnic. As usual, there will be BBQ, cold beverages, activities for kids, ballet folklorico and raffles!
At this year’s picnic, the Central Coast Labor Council is turning our focus to using the power of the labor movement to support immigrant families and advance farmworker union organizing on the Central Coast. Our communities have been reeling since the July 10th workplace raids at Glass House Farms. As a Labor Council and a labor movement, we have the responsibility to put our energy and resources towards empowering all workers to protect themselves through worker solidarity, worker power and collective bargaining – which can only be attained through union organizing.
On August 31st, we are partnering with United Farm Workers to put on a “train-the-trainer” program to train union organizers to help farmworker families create an Emergency Family Plan to prepare for the potential of being detained, arrested or deported. We will be doing food distribution and delivery with both non-perishables and hot plates for immigrant families in the area who are unable to come out to the park.
